Community forums are still one of the better places to get a second opinion on a stubborn infection — if you post the right details and stay sceptical about strangers offering shortcuts.
What a useful post contains
- Windows version and build, plus whether it is a laptop, desktop or work machine
- What happened first and what you have already tried, in order
- The exact wording of any error or detection name
- Whether the machine still has internet access and whether files are backed up
Advice to be wary of
Be cautious with anyone who wants remote access, pushes an unfamiliar "repair" tool, or tells you to disable protection permanently. Registry edits pasted without explanation are also worth a second opinion before you run them.
